Introducing the 30-Day Road Trip Word Crawl Workbook: Pack Your Bags for Day 1
I am so jazzed to finally announce the digital, printable version of the 30-Day Road Trip Word Crawl Workbook is now available!
I’ve included below the full first word crawl in the workbook, so you can “try before you buy.” Give it a whirl! I’d love to know what you think in the comments—and what your word count was once you finished!
Happy writing!
Day 1: Pack Your Bags
Two of your childhood best friends are getting married, and you’ve decided to make a month-long road trip out of the occasion. The wedding will be the midpoint of your trip, but before and after the big day, you’re at the mercy of the open road. Who knows what adventures fate has planned for you?
Speaking of plans, are you sure you have all your reservations together? Double check now that everywhere you’re staying knows you’re coming.
Sprint for as many minutes as there are letters in your first and last name.
Once you’re sure you’ll have a place to rest your head—at least for most nights—do a once-over of your luggage to make sure you’re not forgetting anything in that department.
If you’re the type of person who packs light, write 225 words.
If you prefer to pack everything you think you could possibly need, write 275 words.
Your next move depends on whether or not you have another kind of travel arrangement to make. Thirty days is a long time to leave your home. Someone needs to check on things!
If you have pets or plants you care for, write 350 words.
If you just need someone to collect your mail, write 300 words.
The most important step in preparing for a road trip is, of course, making snacks! Just move quickly—every second the ice is out of the freezer is another second you’re closer to a melted mess.
Write 600 words in an hour.
- If you succeed, make a note to share your win in a post after your writing session!
- If you didn’t make it to 600 words in that hour, hey, progress is progress. Write the rest of the 600 words, then keep going!
Once you’ve stuffed everything into your vehicle, you’re almost ready to go! All that’s missing is your road trip playlist.
Pick your favorite of the options on the next page to add to your playlist. If you want both options on your playlist, combine the sprint times into one longer sprint!
TRACK ONE:
- “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” (Sprint for 4 minutes.)
- “Shut Up and Drive” (Sprint for 4 minutes.)
- If you want neither, write 200 words.
TRACK TWO:
- “Life is a Highway” (Sprint for 5 minutes.)
- “Old Town Road” (Sprint for 3 minutes.)
- If you want neither, write 225 words.
TRACK THREE:
- “Mustang Sally” (Sprint for 3 minutes.)
- “Little Red Corvette” (Sprint for 5 minutes.)
- If you want neither, write 250 words.
And now you’re ready to get moving. Put your bags in the car. Turn the key in the ignition. Take a breath as you put your hands on the steering wheel and leave your neighborhood. You’re on a road trip now, baby!
What’s your final word count? Remember to let me know in the comments!
